Her official title may be Audit & Assurance Partner, but Greater Boston Chamber Board member and Women’s Network Advisory Board Chair Susan Esper is a multi-dimensional leader for the Boston office of Deloitte & Touche LLP, the audit, consulting, tax and advisory services organization that prides itself on a dedication to leadership that extends to clients, the community and its people.
Since joining Deloitte in 1991 after graduating from Providence College, Susan has been surrounded by great leaders and mentors who have helped her grow her career in endless ways. Now, she’s taking the opportunity to pay it forward and – in true Deloitte fashion – she’s helping others grow both in and out of the office.
In addition to serving clients in the investment management industry and leading Deloitte's focus on growth in its Private Company practice, which includes private equity and venture capital-backed businesses, Susan is leading Deloitte’s New England Board Ready Women, an initiative aimed at creating a pipeline of potential female directors for public and private company boards. And as Chair for the Chamber’s Women’s Network, Susan is making a huge impact for thousands of Greater Boston women from every sector, industry, profession and career level.
“The Chamber and Deloitte share many of the same important priorities, including empowering emerging leaders and helping leaders of all levels thrive,” says Susan. “We are leveraging the Chamber’s programs to complement our own leadership initiatives and making an impact far beyond the walls of our office.”
Susan says she gets as much as she gives to the Women’s Network and is inspired by the powerful, smart and giving women in the Greater Boston business community. “Particularly as a mom to two daughters, I feel proud to step up to the podium every month and welcome women to the Chamber. I love seeing new faces, learning about them, finding ways to help them connect and grow, and ultimately playing a role in their advancement as future Boston leaders. That’s what the Women’s Network is all about.”
What’s next for the Women’s Network? Susan says the Advisory Board is focused on raising awareness that the Women’s Network is there for all of Greater Boston’s professional women. Some ideas for future programs include a mentorship matching program for emerging leaders, and more board-ready initiatives for established female leaders. And she says Advisory Board members are stepping up their social media game to engage more women and men in the dialogue of women’s advancement.
Susan and Deloitte continue to support the Chamber’s mission to make Boston the best place for businesses and people to thrive, and we know with Susan at the helm of our Women’s Network, Boston will continue to be a national leader in advancing the role of women in business and society.
