President’s Update on the Economy

Dear Chamber Member:

Resilience.  Adaptability.  Leadership.

As our region and our nation experience unprecedented financial turmoil, I keep coming back to those three simple but important words --- and the lessons we have learned from the serious economic challenges we have faced in the past.

First, we are a resilient people with a dynamic economy, and our history demonstrates that we will grow and prosper once this period stabilizes.  Second, we must constantly adapt our organizations and our strategy to succeed in a dramatically changing global economy.  Third, leadership is critical within our organizations and within our communities - especially during times of crisis.  This is not the time to assign blame - but it is the time for the public and private sectors to work together in a bi-partisan manner to develop solutions to our problems.

We at the Chamber share and understand the reality our members are faced with during this economic crisis, and we are more committed than ever to providing you with a strong voice on key policy issues, strategic networking programs that help your business grow, and opportunities to develop future leadership.  To that end, I am pleased to invite you as our guest to a special Government Affairs Forum with Congressman Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and a chief architect of the $700 billion financial rescue plan.  We are offering this event as a complementary, members-only program, designed to connect you with a first-hand assessment of the economic situation.  It will be held on Monday, October 27, at 7:45 a.m.  Please RSVP at bostonchamber.com.

The Chamber is here to work for you, and as always, I encourage you to share your feedback and concerns.  I know that we will become a stronger country and a stronger region because of our collective ability to be resilient, to adapt, and to lead.

Sincerely,

Paul Guzzi
