President’s Update: Chamber Opposes Sales Tax on Behalf of Members
Dear Chamber Member:
Legislators are considering a number of different proposals in order to help the state close its budget deficit. I wanted to take a moment to update you on the Chamber's work on behalf of our members, specifically related to the current tax debate on Beacon Hill.
The Chamber is opposed to new revenue options that would increase business taxes or negatively impact our competitiveness - including an increase in the sales tax. We are delivering that message to legislative leaders, and working with other business groups to oppose such tax increases.
A number of the proposals being discussed at the State House have the potential to increase the cost of doing business in Massachusetts at a time when employers and consumers alike are struggling. Over the next few days, we will continue to work with legislative leaders to find solutions to the state's budget challenges that don't harm our competitiveness.
Sincerely,
Paul Guzzi
