Event Description: Eric Rosengren President & CEO Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Eric Rosengren is president & CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston (the Bank). Since assuming this role in 2007, Rosengren has been a prescient observer of the national economy. He was the lone voice on the Federal Open Market Committee (the Fed) to vote for more aggressive interest rate cuts in December 2007, and argued in 2008 that the Fed could hold interest rates lower, longer. Rosengren has also taken a more active role in the regional economy. He has focused the Bank on doing research that leads to solutions, and led an effort to address the foreclosure crisis and help struggling homeowners find relief. With an eye towards the future workforce and economic success of the region, Rosengren has taken a special interest in the outflow of talented workers. He and the Bank have partnered with the Greater Boston Chamber to attempt to retain the region’s talent and connect it with employers, while also insuring that skills training matches employer needs. Rosengren joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in 1985 as an economist in the Research Department and held senior positions within the Bank in both the research and bank supervision functions. In his work as an economist, Rosengren has made the link between financial problems and the real economy a focus of his research, and he has published extensively on macroeconomics, international banking, bank supervision, and risk management. He has authored more than 100 articles and papers on economics and finance, including articles in many of the top economics and finance journals. Rosengren is a graduate of Colby College and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
